Down Shawls

Orenburg shawls in this category are made from a blend of viscose and indigenous goat down not less than 72% from Orenburg area. The silk helps to hold the shape of the lace and increases the strength of the shawl. The shawls are knitted into a variety of geometric designs and in many shapes; rectangular, square and triangular. Color varies depending on the goats down tint, mainly white, grey and brown.
Orenburg region is located in the south of Ural in Russia. Orenburg is famous for its downy shawls, known as Orenburg down scarves and pashminas. Lace shawls out of down have been created in the region for over 300 years. Orenburg goat yarn is one of the thinnest in the world, the down hair of Orenburg goats is only 14-18 micrometers. Goat down is not to confuse with cashmere. The down is combed out from goats at the beginning of winter season. Abt. 1 kg of down can be combed from one goat, which is afterwards washed, sorted by tints and spinned into the yarn.
