Ukrainian folk dresses

The folk shirts and blouses Vyshyvanka is a cultural heritage of Ukrainian people clothes, that have an ancient sacramental meaning. Women's folk costumes were embroidered in a special characteristic way with large bright flowers and geometric patterns not only to decorate but to protect. A young girl from Ukraine had to make embroidered vyshyvanka shirts for the future husband, for relatives and, in addition, for herself. Thus, after all the wedding celebrations, a vyshyvanka became a kind of body amulet and was kept throughout life.

 

Nowadays Vyshyvanka designs are diverse and numerous. You may find some national and historical features but also the impact of modern fashion and boho trends.
